Quang Binh is already famous for its cave systems. This trip goes further into the province than most tours reach.

Three days, two wild camps, and terrain that changes completely each day: old-growth forest and waterfalls on day one, the highest waterfall in the reserve followed by a valley camp on day two, and four kilometres inside Cha Loi Cave on day three — swimming, crawling and climbing through passages that have barely been visited.

Porters carry the heavy gear. Guides handle the route. You carry a daypack and show up ready to move.

Pick-up from your hotel in Dong Hoi or Phong Nha, then the drive toward the reserve via the east branch of the Ho Chi Minh Trail — your guide covers the history of the trail and the reserve on the way. Arrive at the Monkey Bridge Forest Protection Station for a safety briefing, equipment handover, and release form. Then the trek begins.

The entry into the reserve is immediate: a slope of 50 to 70 degrees dropping 400 metres in altitude, into the canopy of Dong Chau — Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve. A first stop at Toc Tien Waterfall before continuing along the stream through the old-growth trees. After lunch, the main challenge of the day: Duong Cam Waterfall at 100 metres, among the most recent additions to Quang Binh's adventure circuit. The afternoon follows the forest slopes back to camp. Tonight you sleep in tents inside the reserve, with the sound of the waterfall carrying through the trees.

Banh Mi moment: Setting up your tent in the forest as dusk falls — the waterfall still audible, the canopy closing overhead, nowhere near a road or a town.

Pick-up is from your hotel in Dong Hoi or Phong Nha at 08:00 on day one. The tour returns to Dong Hoi or Phong Nha by mid-afternoon on day three. This is a physically demanding programme: the descent and ascent on day one involve 50 to 70-degree slopes with a 400m altitude change. Cave sections on day three require crawling, climbing and swimming in cold water. Participants should have reasonable fitness and no claustrophobia. Minimum age: 12 years. Best months: February to August (dry season, cave water levels manageable).

Počasí v destinaci Phong Nha-Ke Bang – Červenec

Vietnam lze navštívit po celý rok. Sever je v zimě (leden, únor) chladnější, na horách může i sněžit. Podzim (září, říjen) bývá ve středním Vietnamu deštivý. Jih je teplý po celý rok, od března do konce září s minimem srážek s výjimkou některých ostrovů. Nejlepší doba k návštěvě: únor–červen a září–prosinec.

The four-kilometre route involves walking upright, crawling through low passages on hands and knees, climbing rock formations inside the cave, and swimming through flooded sections where the water reaches chest height. You do not need climbing experience, but you should be comfortable in confined spaces and cold water. Guides are with you throughout every section.
No. Several sections require crawling through low, narrow passages where the ceiling is less than a metre above the floor. If you experience anxiety in confined spaces, this cave is not suitable. The Phong Nha area has excellent above-ground and less confined cave experiences that may suit you better.
Headlamp, specialist cave shoes (with grip for wet rock), and protective gloves are all provided and fitted before you enter. Wear clothing you do not mind getting wet and muddy — bring a dry change of clothes in a waterproof bag for the vehicle.
Tents pitched inside a primary forest reserve, no facilities beyond what the team carries in. Dinner is cooked on site. Toilet facilities are basic and outdoor. There is no electricity and mobile signal is absent. It is genuinely remote — that is the point.
Pack light: the porters carry group equipment, but your personal bag is on your back during the trek. Essentials: quick-dry clothing, warm layer for camp evenings, rain jacket, solid closed-toe shoes with grip, swimwear (Love Valley stream and cave), insect repellent, sunscreen, headtorch, and any personal medication. Tents, sleeping mats, and cooking equipment are provided.

February to August, when water levels in the cave are manageable and trail conditions in the reserve are stable. September to November brings significant rain to Quang Binh — cave water levels rise and some trek sections may be impassable. We will advise on conditions at the time of booking.
